Pet Stroller Tips:

Below are some great tips on selecting the right
pet stroller for you and your dog:

  • Safety
    • You will need a stroller which has the ability to enclose your dog without restricting air-flow. Most strollers on the market will have this feature.
    • Look for a stroller with a secondary locking system. This will ensure that your stroller will not fold while in use.
    • Avoid any type of dog stroller which has sharp edges or small parts that may come loose.
    • You should look for a tip-resistant or bottom-heavy stroller to avoid tipping in both the open and closed position.
    • Make sure that your new stroller comes with a parking brake as well as a braking mechanism if necessary.

  • Solid Construction
    • The metal frame should be strong and stable. Look for seams that are neatly welded.
    • Make sure that all four wheels touch the ground with equal pressure. No rocking or tipping.
    • The seat cover and riding compartment should be made of high-quality fabric, substatioally padded and should be securely stitched into place.
An easy-to-clean area is a definite plus!
    • Look for a generously sized canopy. This will act as a barrier between your little best friend and Mother Nature.
    • Treaded, air-filled tires are a must if you plan on using your stroller outdoors on uneven terrain or sun-heated surfaces.

  • Ease of use
    • Make sure your dog stroller is easy for you to maneuver. It may LOOK easy for someone else to use it. You should be the one to test it out.
    • Look for an "easy access" dog stroller. You want to make sure that you are comfortable getting your puppy in and out of the stroller.
    • Look for the lightest stroller you can for the job you need it to do. Heavy strollers can quickly become a hassle to deal with.
    • Try finding a stroller with adjustable handles if two parents are going to be pushing it. If one of you is 5'2" and the other is 6'4", you want and adjustable stroller!
    • Make sure the seat cover is easily removable and machine-washable.

  • Other considerations
    • Make sure your stroller will handle your puppy's full grown weight.
    • Find a stroller with a generous storage basket.
    • Try finding a stroller with a drink holder / key tray on the handlebar area.
    • Almost a must! Make sure your dog stroller has a built-in plastic viewing canopy. This is a see-through plastic area in the top of the canopy so you can keep an eye on your puppy.
    • Make sure that when folded, your stroller will have enough clearance to carry it in your vehicle or store it in whatever storage area you have.
    • Purchase two dog strollers if necessary. This may make life a LOT easier for you in the future...just think about it.
