WOW...that's interesting. Most the breeders seem to give a "first haircut" before adopting them out. I too like the "stripped" look but don't have time to do it myself and I'm sure it's much more expensive around here.

We have two round here that I know of who do it. Sparkles groomer only strips small dogs as she says it is so time consuming. I think with breeders maybe if you stipulate that you are wanting to show, then they wont clip. I dont know how true it is that you cant go back, but Sparkle was around 13 months when I asked her about it so she'd had a fair few clips by then. Never heard of rolling before and not sure what the process is but I believe it is good for fine coats? I presume its too late for that too :(

Thanks, chaps!

She's always been handstripped - the breeder was quite keen that I got it done. She only has it done every 7 or 8 weeks or so and therefore it doesn't work out to be too expensive. Between stripping (!) I use Mikki stripping combs on her a bit - not very often, and just comb her with a regular comb every few days. I wanted her to be stripped to retain her B&S colouring for as long as possible - when they're clipped there's a tendency for them to lose their colouring and lighten. It wasn't easy to find someone in my area-ish that does it, but she loves it and they make a huge fuss of her when she's there.

Anyway, I've gone a bit mad and taken a few pix of her today before she gets all scruffy again (by tomorrow, probably!) so forgive the bombardment. And all Schnauzers are lovely, stripped or clipped.

You post away Wixter, the more pictures the better. She does look rather lovely. I love the way they smell when they come home from the groomers, I dont know about Lola but Sparkle always seems to strut her stuff on the walk home as if to say "yep, I look good dont I" Going to the seaside on Saturday (weather permitting) so going to give my new camera a good bashing! More pictures of Lola please :) :) :) :)

Okey dokey, you asked for it! Lola playing with her favourite toy and doing her GI Jane routine this afternoon

Image

It's quite annoying, I don't know why her moustache looks so brown, it doesn't in real life. It looks as though she's been smoking!

1) How does Lola respond to training, she looks like she is doing the right thing all the time
2) ... and she certainly no looks like she is smoking.... 8)

To be honest, I'm a bit slack about training her. She knows "no", that's for sure, and she's pretty good at the "sit" and the "stay" and "off" but she's rubbish on the lead - or, to be really honest, I've been rubbish at training her in that respect. I know it's my fault and not hers because every dog I've ever had has pulled on the lead.

Regarding the smoking look, she does sometimes look a little brown around the beard and moustache area - more so in photos than in real life, but I read somewhere that giving them filtered water as opposed to tap water does improve it, so here's hoping!

Thank you for your kind comments. Much appreciated!

I'm having a bit of a shit time at the moment, mother in Spain not expected to live for more than two or three days, and little Lola being rather lovely.
Not nice stuff for me at the present. Forgive me.

Many thanks, everyone. My mother died the following day. Unfortunately I'd not been well for a couple of days prior to this and for medical reasons I'm not supposed to fly at the moment anyway, but with the aid of a wheelchair I managed to board the plane and get off at the other end and do the same on the journey back. I was only over there for about three days, just to go to the funeral really, and try and sort out her estate, or at least set things in motion.

Lola went to stay with a friend and appears to have had a lovely holiday with loads of walks and new dog-chums. On our return the poor girl went to the vet to get spayed, so I think she'd have been happier if I'd not come back at all! This was three days ago and she's still very subdued and is very reluctant to eat - even fresh chicken or fish. She also keeps bringing up bile, which is a bit worrying. Her little scar seems to be healing nicely though, so at least that's something.

Oh Wixter. I am so sorry, sweetie. It is so hard to lose a loved one, especially your mother. I know. I have been down that road. It is a tough one. I am sorry your health isn't very good also. Too many hard things to deal with all at the same time. You are in my thoughts. Hope you get feeling better soon.

I hope our dear little pixi Lola, gets feeling on top of the world soon also.

Sending good thoughts from across the pond. Glad you checked in with us. Keep us posted.

So sorry to hear about your mother as well as your health and Lola's post surgery slump. Hope she's feeling better. My experience is that bile comes up when the tummy is empty and nothing to digest. Will keep you in my thoughts and sending hugs to you and Lola.

H Wixter, sorry I took a while to answer but last night's post didn't work and it was late.
I am sorry to hear that your Mum has passed away. There's something special about mothers: I think it's because they bring us into the world and that are that - a mother.
My thoughts are with you at this time.

You are all very kind. My mother was very old and I'd sort of been expecting it for several months. I hope I don't sound heartless but I think it's what she would have wanted. She refused to go into hospital and had pretty much round the clock nursing care - and the nurses were all excellent - but she was having a pretty miserable time, if the truth be told. I think it will have come as something of a release to her.

Lola refused to eat for days and days and days. Warm chicken? Pah. Warm fish? Yuk. She just wasn't interested at all. Yesterday - six days after the op, she indicated quite a bit of excitement over my scrambled egg breakfast, so we made her some and she gobbled it up like there was no tomorrow. I seem to have gone off meat a bit, but when my rump steak appeared last night there was a very willing volunteer to hoover it up. So thankfully she seems to have got her mojo back and has been playing with me in the sitting room today.

Her op was last Thursday, ie a week ago today, and I took these photos the day after when she'd plopped herself on my lap and assumed the usual Lola default position. I'd put her on the settee next to me, but even in her listless state, she wasn't going to put up with that.

I love the Lola default position. So glad to hear she's back on her food. I understand about your Mom. It's so hard to watch them decline and know they are suffering. It doesn't make it less painful to lose them but it does come with more of a sense of relief for the end of their suffering. How are you feeling?

Lola default position...I love it. Glad she's eating again. Lucy didn't miss a meal...hmmm...I imagine it would take quite a bit for Lucy to miss a meal willingly!
